Feeling overwhelmed, lonely or anxious after moving abroad? You are not alone.
Feeling overwhelmed, lonely or lost after moving abroad? You are not alone.
Moving to a new country can be one of the most exciting decisions of your life. But it can also be one of the hardest. Many people expect to feel happy and fulfilled after relocating — and instead find themselves struggling with loneliness, anxiety, identity confusion, or a persistent feeling that something is just… off.
If this sounds familiar, it does not mean something is wrong with you. It means you are going through a major life transition — and you deserve support that truly understands what that feels like.

Common challenges I work with
- Loneliness and social isolation abroad
- Anxiety, overthinking and emotional exhaustion
- Culture shock and adaptation difficulties
- Identity confusion after moving countries
- Homesickness and grief for the life left behind
- Difficulty forming meaningful connections in a new place
- Relationship strain caused by the move
- Feeling "in between cultures" — not fully belonging anywhere
- Loss of professional identity or career uncertainty abroad
- Reverse culture shock when returning home

What Is Expat Therapy?
Expat therapy is a form of psychological support specifically focused on the emotional experience of living outside your home country.
It goes beyond treating symptoms like anxiety or stress. It is about understanding what happens to your sense of self, your relationships, and your belonging when you uproot your life and start over somewhere new.
In expat therapy, we explore questions like:
- Who am I when I am away from everything that used to define me?
- Why do I feel lonely even when I am surrounded by people?
- How do I grieve the life I left behind while building a new one?
- How do I know if what I am feeling is culture shock, burnout, or something deeper?
There is no need to explain or justify your experience here. As someone who has lived and adapted to multiple countries myself, I understand from the inside what it means to rebuild your identity, your friendships, and your sense of home in a new place.
How Expat Therapy Works
Every person's experience of living abroad is different. That is why I take an integrative approach — drawing from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), trauma-informed techniques, mindfulness, and somatic awareness to create a therapeutic process that fits you specifically.
Our work together typically unfolds in three phases:
1. Exploration — We map your history, your current experience, and what is getting in the way of feeling grounded and well.
2. Active work — We use evidence-based tools and strategies tailored to your needs, culture, and life context.
3. Integration — We consolidate the changes you have made and build the emotional autonomy to sustain them long after our work together ends.
Sessions are warm, structured, and judgment-free — in whichever language feels most natural to you.

Who I Work With?

Why Work With a Trilingual Expat Psychologist?
There is a significant difference between a therapist who understands the expat experience intellectually and one who has lived it.
Having relocated and adapted to multiple countries myself, I bring both professional training and personal insight to this work. I know what it feels like to lose your support network overnight, to navigate bureaucracy in a foreign language, to grieve a life while trying to build a new one.
I also offer something rare: therapy in English, Spanish, and Bulgarian — so you can work in the language that feels closest to your emotional truth, rather than translating your inner world for your therapist.
Not sure if therapy is right for you, or whether we would be a good fit? Let's talk first — no pressure, no commitment.
Book a free 15-minute video call and we can meet, you can ask any questions, and we can both get a sense of whether working together feels right.
